Not sure if you have solved your squirrel problem yet so I'll offer some advice.
Squirrels are terrified of ferrets and will not come near them or their smell, no matter how subtle.Get hold of a small bag of used ferret litter (from pet store, friend...)and put a handful of it in pieces of nylon stockings. Place stuffed stockings around area you last found a squirrel. Keep some of these in a ziplock bag to place near squirrel's suspected point of entry. Guaranteed no squirrels, ever.
