Contest
My 2007 calendars have been printed! I just got my complimentary calendars in the mail today--whoot!
I have bird calendars for six states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Each month has gorgeous bird photos, a list of birds to expect, a to do list for your birds, and trivia as to when to expect certain species and records for each state. For example: On December 4, 2003 7,400 common goldeneyes were seen at Pool 8 of the Upper Mississippi NWA in Minnesota.
So, in honor of my calendars arriving, I'm throwing a contest (hopefully comments are working). Whoever is the first to id this bird (correctly) gets a free calendar of the state of their choice:
Can you identify this bird butt? Post answers in the comments area.

Looks like a black capped chickadee to me :-)
Umm, black-capped chickadee?
What, no Iowa calendar?
It is a black capped chickadee...cute little guy that he is!
Of course it looks like a chickadee, but.... you wouldn't make it that easy would you?
How about a red breasted nuthatch?
I agree with Larry...I don't think you would make it that easy so....I say Carolina Chickadee. But of course they don't occur
in any of the states covered by the calenders...hmm, maybe I'm wrong?
Steve
blacked capped chickadeedeedee!!!
Hee heee! I like the photo's filename ;)
Where was this picture taken? If in the southern 2/3 of Ohio, I say Carolina Chickadee (resident in my part of the state.) If north of the "Chickadee Mason-Dixon Line," (draw a line from Paulding County east to Columbian County) then I will join the Black-capped Chickadee crowd.

Holy Cow! I turn my back to do some work for a few minutes and it's comment city!
tsduff is the first correct entry with black-capped chickadee. The photo was taken in Wisconsin.
So, tsduff, I notice you are in California and I don't have a Cali calendar yet. Are you interested in any of the six states currently available?
Email me with your answer and snail mail address at sharon@birdchick.com.
I still have a whole pile of calendars...and other books not by me to give away, so more contests are coming.
We disapprove of the fact that you do not have a Cali calendar yet...
Where/how can I buy an Ohio calendar? I googled it and nothing came up!
I am at the mercy of my publisher as far as which states get calendars first. You should have seen the carnage from my family the first year when we didn't do an Indiana calendar.
Calendars should be available in wild bird specialty stores, Barnes and Nobles, Border's or any book or nature store that carries calendars. If your local book store or bird/nature store don't bring it in, you can always order it through my publisher at www.adventurepublications.net
So, does adventure publications wholesale your calendars to nature stores? That would be so cool to carry your calendars in my store here in Michigan!
Morgen, thanks!
Adventure does wholesale and retail. When I ran a bird store, I loved ordering from Adventure, they had a low minimum order.
They've got some great books, they just came out with a Loon Book with FANTASTIC photos and information for $14.95. A review is coming soon to the blog. They also have a new Loon CD--almost all loons, very tiny amount of narration on a separate track.
Plus, I really enjoy their "Joy of" Series. Especially the "Joy of Rhubarb".
