How about a western grebe
I vote western grebe too.
Clark's grebe.
Clark's Grebe
Clark's Grebe that you saw in Utah. It's a clark's Grebe becaue the white is above the eye, a strong yellow/orange bill, whitish sides, a thinner black stripe on hind neck all point to a Clark's Grebe.

There's like no chance I can win ...
Nice photo though!
Slaty-backed Grebe? LOL!
Yeah, I was too late to even try this one!

Yo, Caroline, you got! It is a Clark's grebe and is from my Utah trip as Mike noted.
So, Caroline, let me know via email sharon@birdchick.com which calendar you want and where I should send it.
Thanks for playing.
I always use a mnemonic to separate these guys - Clark's Grebe have Clear eyes. "Clear" meaning that they are white around the eyes. It works for me and is reliable most of the time.
