Actor Jackie Chan stars in UN-backed TV announcement warning about deadly bird flu
World-famous actor and martial arts expert Jackie Chan stars in a United Nations-backed television public service announcement alerting children and their families around the world to the dangers of bird flu, which has killed more than 130 people worldwide and led to the deaths of 200 million birds.
Mr. Chan tells the girls and boys, who come from all over the world, that birds can pass on flu, or avian influenza, to people, so it’s important to stay away from sick and dead birds, especially chickens. He then nods approvingly as 8-year-old Ava pipes up: “But playing with paper birds is fine.”

Now, I loves me some Jackie Chan almost as much as I love goshawks (he's on my list of five) but is he really who we want informing the world about avian influenza?

I have been waiting for hours for your Jackie Chan post. Knew it was gonna happen, just knew it.
Maybe it's not who you want - it's who the rest of the world might listen to - think about where the bird flu is a big problem right now - it ain't New York City.
Maybe when it comes to the US we'll get Arnold to do a spot for the CDC.

Sounds fine to me. You want someone who can reach the people who are most exposed - where the kids play with the chickens but don't quite sleep with them.
Well, I WAS snorgling a sick chicken moments ago...but after hearing that Mr. Chan says to put that chicken down, I for one, am thinking twice about this chicken cuddling.

But that's just me. I respect the Chan.
I think I'm just worried that my beloved Jackie will say something inaccurate about birds and that will destroy the fantasy.
Given the choice between Jackie Chan and a goshawk, I'd go with Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan has never attacked my neice, whereas a goshawk has.
