Cinnamon is entirely too cute! Who'd miss a carrot or two for the sake of that cuteness!
Oh, sure, they're cute when they're sitting in your yard innocently chewing on grass, but the minute you turn your back they're mowing down trays of annuals you've planted, watered, and cared for.
A few carrots I'd gladly trade for safe and secure annuals and perennials, but that's not good enough for the bunnies in my neighborhood. Oh no! First it's a couple of carrots, then it's the marigolds, then it's the hostas. I can no longer stand for this bunny extortion!
I've got my eye on your type, Cinnamon. That's right, just keep hopping on by...
Isn't there stuff you can put around your garden that deters rabbits? I can't remember what it is but there is something you can put down around your plants that smells like predators so rabbits leave the area alone. Would Cinnamon approve of that?
When I worked at the wild bird store we sold lots of fox and coyote urine (and even wolf urine) to keep critters out of gardens and feeding stations for mixed results.
All my friends who have massive gardens with major mammal problems swear by the water scarecrow. It's a motion sensitive sprayer. When it detects movement it sprays a hard jolt of water in that direction. Works for everything from rabbits to wood chucks to deer.
I think they run about $80.
Another option for those who like to grow herbs is to grow them in window boxes--I've yet to have any bunny but Cinnamon eat my basil and parsley this summer.
I tried supposedly repellent herbs and plants which rabbits aren't supposed to eat to no effect (the bunny thugs around here seem eat any and everything). I didn't much care for the idea of spreading pee around my garden or implementing complex mechanical devices, though for a while I considered razor wire and East German guards.
Most of the rabbit deterent advice/schemes/folk remedies seem to be like a lot of pocket gopher deterence schemes: not particularly effective. The only really effective thing is to either keep them out completely or kill them. And even with my black, black heart I can't bring myself to commit bunny-cide, so I ended up putting up chicken wire.
Ironically, the heat and drought this year has done more damage then rabbits probably would have.
I think you should have a Meet 'n Greet with Cinnamon someday. I am not embarrased to admit I am a fan of said bun.
If Cinnamon has the diplomatic power to negotiate for mangy yard bunnies, I would be happy to meet and come to a peaceful settlement.
I'd suggest Reykjavik in the fall or Yalta in the springtime.
