Yeah, why do commercials and movies show an eagle but you hear a RT? I guess the squeakiness of an eagle doesn't inspire ferociousness.
That's hilarious.
I just saw that commercial tonight! There's another one with a couple gorillas thinking the jeep is a bug and try to eat it, then spit it out.
Hi, I'm a new reader--came for the disapproval, stayed for the birds. I saw this commercial on TV tonight and thought I should try to find it to send to you...and here it is!
I think quite a few of us were watching Lost tonight.
;)
Hi Joannao, thanks for hanging with us at the blog!
Hah! I remember when I was learning bird calls, and realized that the Red-Tailed Hawk call was the universal signifier for "wide open, often desolate, spaces".
My husband just laughed and laughed at me when I got all indignant at CSI (who I still maintain should know better) for using it.
At least CSI uses it when they are out in the desert. I still hold Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the series) as the tops for bird call accuracy. When an owl would hoot in the cemetery, it was always a western screech owl--a species actually found in California.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it wasn't a redtail, it was an Auger Buzzard. In the states, we cannot use native bird species for commercials.
Auger Buzzard aka African version of an American red-tailed hawk. At least it's more of an effort than Hollywood typically makes.
what does the eagle think the red jeep is anyway?
The hawk supposedly mistakes the jeep for a beetle (according to one web site)? Uh a raptors vision is 8 to 10 times better than a humans! Dumb commerical but worth watching due to the cool hawk!
