Raptor Releases For Your Viewing Pleasure

This is a photo of my sisters Terri (left) and Monica (right) releasing two sharp-shinned hawks. I love Monica, she looks like she just made a touchdown.

More sharp-shins being released.

Multiple sharp-shinned hawks being released.

Another sharp-shin.

Oooooooooo, haggard red-tailed hawk being released. Sweeeeeet.

And yet, another sharp-shin heading to the wild blue yonder.

More shins...wait, one of these things is not like the others...any guessers?

A passage red-tail. There's actually a second shin being released behind it, you can see its wing poking down behind the red-tail.

Me releasing a merlin.

I don't care what Jack or MH say. The chance to see a raptor up close and touch it would be a thrill of a lifetime for me. (insert raspberry sound here-)

I disapprove of the older raptors being called "haggard." Why not "mature" or "experienced?"

Signed,
Kathi, the haggard birder, who has held a Great Horned Owl, but never a hawk or falcon

All trolls must go away.
***also inserting raspberry sound*** You crack me up Lynne.
And you, too, Kathi, you haggard birder. (-:
Sharon, thanks for this post. It sounds like you had such a cool time. And I had to laugh when I saw Terri's IU PUI sweatshirt (or as we Hoosiers call it: Ooooeee pooooeee).
:-)
And the mention of the footing you got gives me the willies...our RT's are so darn feisty, I know it's only a matter of time before one of them gets me. (The worst boo boo I got was from our male, but it was my fault he scratched me, I gave him half an inch of extra jess and he got beyond my glove.)
A freelance writer. There are no words scarier than that. That is what my hubby does, and it is not for the fainthearted. But, of course, money-wise, we would be just fine if I went out and got myself a "real job".
Have wonderful trips to Alabamee and Cape May, you lucky thing. And the invitation stands: If you ever come through Cincinnati, please come by some I can cook you a nice dinner of roast beast and give you a tour of RAPTOR, Inc.
Okay, Susan...time to shut up now.

Thanks, Susan.

So I have to ask, are you a Hoosier now living the Buckeye life?

I'm beginning to think I need to move to Ohio, that's where a lot of cool bird people live: you, Julie and Bill, Kenn and Kim, Jim McCormac...

Thanks for the invite, next time I'm near Cincinnati, I'm taking you up on the offer. You're of course welcome to visit the Stiteler abode if you find yourself in the Twin Cities. I think I can get NBB to Cincinnati--we both love King's Island.

Sharon: Yep, I grew up in Indiana, and when I got married became a Buckeye. (Which has always seemed fitting to me, for that to be the state tree for Ohio...a poisonous nut)
King's Island! Hooray! Let's go!
