Sunday

Just finished watching the season 2 finale of Dr. Who...heart breaking! Non Birding Bill in on my case saying that there is no crying with Dr. Who. The second season has a couple hit and miss episodes but the last two are not to be missed.

If anyone has the morning off tomorrow in Minnesota, I'm guest hosting Showcase Minnesota. I'm interviewing three people: Organization expert Louise Kurzeka, Chad Lewis the co-author of the Minnesota Road Guide to Haunted Locations, and Laura Erickson of Birderblog fame talking about her book 101 Ways to Help Birds, we're even going to take phone questions on air--dueling bird ladies!

Hi Birdchick.

Here's a raptor-related question. As a fairly new birdwatcher, I've been mostly interested in songbirds. But your enthusiasm for raptors is irresistibly infectious. So I'd like to get your recommendation on the best book to teach me to identify raptors.

Thanks, Heartbird

Sharon- you were terrific on Showcase Minnesota!! It was especially fun to see you and Laura Erickson do your bird chat together. Great job- you are a natural people person!

To Lynne: thanks for watching!

To Starkat: you're not the first and certainly won't be the last.

To Heartbird:

Here are some of my favorites:

For identification:
Photographic Guide to North American Raptors by Bill Clark and Brian Wheeler--just about every angle of every hawk in North America

Hawks at Every Angle is a good one too.

General Raptor Information
Raptor Almanac by Scott Weidensaul (sometimes can be found in used book stores under the first printing title of just "Raptor")

There are a whole host of books out there, but those three are my favorites. Always happy to convert another raptor bum!
