The Laziest Turnstones?
Or the Smartest? From the Times Online:
A pair of turnstones, birds that fly thousands of miles across oceans, are taking the ferry to save themselves a three-mile commute.
They catch the 8.30am boat from Falmouth to St Mawes, where they are served a breakfast of breadcrumbs by the skipper. They land after 20 minutes then spend the day feeding, before catching the 4.15pm back across the River Fal.
The birds, known as Fred and Freda, have been hitching rides on the Cornish ferry every winter for the past six years. So fond are they of the skipper, John Brown, that if he is captaining another boat they will often fly off to find him.

AH! Mark! It is so great to hear from you. You want to know what's really weird is that the theater a block away from me (The Jungle) is doing a production of The Swan next month.
This is kismet and now I realize that this will have to be a blog entry in the near future.
I linked to the toast manifesto at some point in this blog awhile ago.
Oh, how lovely! I've gacked it to my blog (http://oropher-777.livejournal.com/); I hope you don't mind - I'm not a "birder," but I love both birds and rabbits. If you object to the link I'll take it down.
I've also submitted several photos of our own personal Disapproving Rabbit. I hope you enjoy them!
So cool. Great story!
I just purchased my first pair of birding binoculars -- the Vortex Stokes -- and my Peterson's Guide, and I've joined the local Audubon chapter...so here we go! I feel a little daunted by the knowledge of so many experienced birders, but hopefully someday I'll be able to contribute, too.
Oops, Stokes Talon, I mean. The ones you and a bunch of others recommended. ;)
Hahaha, that is too funny.
