Wall Street Journal Techno Birding Article

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted for some quotes for this article in the Wall Street Journal Online about birders carrying more gadgets in the field. Alas, my comments were cut but still interesting nonetheless. I'm obviously way too glamorous now for the WSJ--okay, I swear these jokes will ease up...at some point.

Holy crap! Birdchick's quotes BELONGED in this article! She is well-known enough that Andrew LaVallee interviewed her early in his research. And then she was nice enough to also give him my name. He apparently thought it was weirder and so more jolting to read about a 55-year-old woman using new technology than someone young and cool, and apparently didn't want the article to be too Minnesota-woman-blogger centered, so only used one of us. But Birdchick's the one who deserved to be in the article.

Dude, Birderblog, please do not sweat it. Andrew sent a nice email this morning and said that his editor cut my quotes out. I'm sure it was a matter of two female bird bloggers in Minnesota sounded a tad redundant. We both have our gadgets and yes I have the Handheld Birds on a PDA and birdJam on my iPod, but you, my friend, have the parabolic mic.

I'm just glad one of us got in there. If my quotes didn't make it, that's just the way it crumbles, cookie-wise.

By the way, glad you're back safe.
