Cockatiel Freak Out
Okay! Here is the video from a few weeks ago when I had our dear cockatiel Kabuki on Showcase Minnesota. I'm on with Rob Hudson who is an impressive host--the first time I worked with him he asked about Anna's Hummingbirds--not often a tv host knows different hummingbird species.
But someone coughed in the studio and Kabuki gave off her warning call which she usually does when she hears banjo music or blue jays. It may not sound so loud on the video, but poor Rob and I ear pieces and so the call is being channeled right into the old ear canal--ouch.
Kabuki does calm down at the end, you can see when he rouses--ruffles the feathers. Also, if you notice that I sometimes switch from referring to our tiel as "he" or "she". It's because the first couple of years we thought she was female but now know that Kabuki is male but we still sometimes think of our bird as male. Poor bird, it has gender issues.
The segment is about four and a half minutes long and Kabuki freaks at about half way through.

No doubt Cinnamon disapproves of Kabuki's unprofessionalism.
But as you said in the clip, that is what a real bird is like.
(and as I type this, my parakeets are still screaming from listening to Kabuki's voice)
that's a kick - thanks - nice to see kabuki share a little of cinnamon's fame finally. my best friend has a cockatiel and when i house sit for them their bird starts yelling pretty much from the time i come in till i leave cuz she misses having them around the house. it's amazing. she's a really cool bird. but MAN are they ever messy!!!

Awesome appearance and thanks for posting the video. The Showcase Minnesota site doesn't have it up.
Did you get to meet Mary Bue? She's a friend of our family and lives in my neighborhood. You two seem like you would be fast friends.
I did meet Mary this past Monday! She gave me one of her CDs--she's great.
I'm leading a woodcock trip Saturday night, but I'm going to try and catch her show afterwards at the Acadia.
Long-time lurker, first time poster here.
Thanks so much for sharing! I absolutely love your blog, and as an extremely amateur bird-watcher, have learned alot.
Kabuki is such a cutie! I completely understand the gender issue thing... when I first got my Zoey, I assumed he was a she due to his distinct lack of vocalizing. Then puberty hit....
Congratulations on the bunny book as well!
Best, Carisa
