Seeking Comic Book Artist

My buddy Carrol Henderson got this photo of one of the peregrines from the Wells Fargo building in Bloomington, MN. I love that shot.

Here's another shot from Carrol, of a female guarding a nest on a downtown building. As much as I love northern goshawks, I must admit that the peregrine is a mighty fine looking piece of bird flesh.

Above is a photo I got two years ago of one of the peregrine chicks at the Colonnade. I've been working a peregrine book for the last six months. My problem is how to write it and explain their behaviors without it being too cheesy. Well, a couple of friends have given me great ideas for direction, one being the suggestion that I turn it into a graphic novel or comic book. So, I'm looking for someone who can illustrate comic books. Are any of you readers out there an artist or know someone who is and has experience with this type of art work?

I'll warn right now that I'm a stickler for bird accuracy. The illustrations can be stylized, but the bird must have basic peregrine structure (ie malar stripes under the eyes and pointed wing tips). If you are interested and up to the challenge, send me some renderings of peregrines. Feel free to throw in other species as well, like red-tailed hawk, grackle, and blue-winged teal. Send queries and or images to sharon at birdchick dot com.

Try Tommy Kane, he might be interested and I think his style (and accuracy) would fit your project.

Seeing as Mr. Neil has authored some of the greatest graphic novels of all time, why don't you ask him for an artist's name?

looney,

excellent idea. It was actually his idea that I turn it into a comic book. He also said that I should put the word out in the blog. He has given me some suggestions for artists and I asked my agent Merrilee for suggestions as well. The idea is to cast a wide net.

Maybe there is someone out there who is look for a start and is brilliant at drawing peregrines?

Just casting a wide net.

I can't really draw for sh*t, but I've been thinking about trying to get into the comics field as a freelance colorist. So, once you have the book drawn and inked and are looking for someone to color it keep me in mind, ok?

Also, now that school's out for summer my schedule has changed so that I'm off at 1:00 on Fridays now. It won't make banding at Carpenter possible but maybe we can get some Friday afternoon birding in again sometime soon. :)

I could draw something; I don't do much painting, but when it comes to digital/graphic, I'm pretty good in that field.

I'll get to sketching and see how it turns out; maybe I'll submit it.

I've got a decent amount of experience in doing illustrations of birds, both in drawing and painting. I'd be interested in working on this, as I'm not particularly busy at this point. Would you be interested in seeing a few of my birds? Or I could do up a few falcons specifically for this. Let me know.

I just saw this linked in Rosemary Mosco's blog (she is pretty much the best bird illustrator ever but claims to be swamped at the moment). I'd be very interested to be involved with this, as I do work for the Toronto Wildlife Centre.
I have some work (but no birds at the moment) at http://bassringer.deviantart.com. I'll perhaps try my hand at falcons.
