Click For Condors
Just got an email from a friend with a request...along with a very weird graphic (not sure how I feel about being ordered around by a bushtit):
Patagonia (the outdoor clothing company) is opening a new store in Palo Alto, CA and as part of the promotion they will be giving away $5,000 to a local charity. Ventana Wildlife Society is one of the candidates, and we need your help! The winner is determined by online voting, so we need all the votes we can get. All you have to do is go to here and vote (you don't have to sign in or anything, just click--and as I understand it, you can click mulitple times). Nepenthe, a local restaurant has offered to match the funds if Ventana wins, so the dtal could go to $10,000!
Why would this be of interest at the Birdchick Blog? Ventana is going to use the money to the California Condor reintroduction program, which is seriously strapped for funds this year. This year there are two Condor nests in Big Sur with healthy condor chicks--it's the first time in over 100 years that condors have bred in Monterey County! This money will go a long way to help ensure the survival of those chicks.
So, if you're feeling in the mood to help birds but are short on time and money--give a click.

Some of the other options look pretty deserving too though (they're all environmentally sound)CES for example.
It'll be a good boost for someone to be sure.
DONE! i tried voting multiple times but it didn't increment the counter on the multiple times so it might log the ip or something to keep you from doing that! at any rate, they've got the most votes by far at this point!
Thanks for the link. I participated in the Pinnacles CBC last winter and hoped to see a condor, but my area didn't have the best probability of that and we didn't see any.
BTW, Nepenthe, while a fantastic restaurant, is hardly local compared to Palo Alto. It is about two-and-a-half hours south of here, all the way south of Carmel and even a bit past Big Sur. However, it has the most beautiful view of any restaurant I've ever been to. If you find yourself in the Monterey/Carmel area, it is well worth your while to take the drive down to Big Sur and enjoy a dinner at Nepenthe while the sun sets over the Pacific. The restaurant is situated right on the edge of a cliff, hundreds of feet above the booming Pacific Ocean. You eat incredible food while taking in a breathtaking view. Kudos to them for sponsoring this donation to whatever worthy organization ends up winning.

As a former Monterey County resident, now living in Indiana, I'm happy to help the condors.
