A pretty sweet blue jay photo! How do they do it outside with no layers??

Ohohohoh! I know! I learned it yesterday in a Below Zero workshop! They use piloerection and huddling! Cool, eh? ^_^
pilo.... pillow...?
8 dollar words for "layers".
They just do it with more finesse that we can since we selected ourselves our of our fur coats in favor of this stupid polywhatever stuff.
Wow, bunnykissd beat me to the cool answer, but I can suggest a wonderful book on the winter strategies of various birds and mammals: Winter World: The Ingenuity of Animal Survival By Bernd Heinrich
Thigh high wool socks? Please tell this girl where to find those! I'm forever needing to add layers to legs (wish I could transplant fat, y'know?)
My polar fleece longjohns are my favorite winter fashion accessory. My wimpy self was wearing them under my jeans when it was 30ish up your way.
I think they are supposed to be knee high socks, but with my short legs they are thigh high. I got them from Cabela's but I'm sure any outdoors store would have them.

i'm a HUGE wuss - complaining earlier when it was oh in the 50s and windy and i was outside with my dogs at the dog park.
But it is a great jay photo -- surely worth the time and effort.
Okay.
Freakin' BRRRRR.
Yay Bunnykissd!
I am glad you managed at least to get that beautiful picture to make the outing worth it.
Have you noticed any "cold" effect on your equipment?
My grandfather loves his thermal shirts.
Good luck, hope you don't freeze too much.
