I'm weird. I am offended by people using the word "Loon" or "Looney" derogitively. Much as I love the series, I wish they had found another match for "Merry Melodies".
I carry two Canadian coins as "good luck" pieces (a "Looney" and a "Twoney" -- not sure how that is spelled).
We don't have them around here, but I think Loons are among the prettiest of birds, and their mournful call (song?) is beautiful.
I have stated several times that I do what it takes to avoid a "real job" or to get paid to go birding.
The NPS job happened kind of out of the blue. I applied for a writing project and didn't meet the criteria and they like my resume and we talked about me being a part time park ranger. I have to admit that I was afraid of a "regular job" after having a year and a half of being my own boss, but with gas prices the way they are and the fact that the job sounded like a total blast, how could I say no?
There are future books in the works, I just got a call from Adventure Publications today that the advance copies of "City Birds/Country Birds" are in and from there we'll see what the next book is. Could be bees, could be peregrines, or heck maybe even life as a part time park ranger.

Thanks for that link--it was a great break in the day to be able to breath in the calming loon
Very nice quality on the Loon cam. Thank you for the link!
Hey BirdChick .. I can't tell if you are going Martha Stewart or Anna Pigeon on us here!!! Is there maybe a book in this NPS gig?
Great posts ... canoeing in the spring is about as good as it gets, if you ask me.
Out here in the NW our backyard fruit trees are mighty sparse.. it was a cold and damp spring and the bee activity was sloooow :<(
LOL! Not Martha!

We'll see what my agent can sell.
Birdchick: I enjoyed the story about the Loon. I have loved the bird since seeing "On Golden Pond". They have such a haunting call.
BTW: I got here from Wikipedia. I posted a picture of a Red Tailed Hawk and was looking for information that led me here. The picture is posted today.
How timely - I just posted my Loon pics - just love the Loons! Thanks for the link!
