Frisky Finches Already?

finches

I forgot to mention that on Friday at Carpenter, I watched a pair of goldfinches gathering nesting material! They usually don't start that until late June early July when the thistle down is out. Have I just been ignoring them and they do start nest building early if old cattail down is available? I will have to pay more attention.

Probably the bird equivalent of cabin fever. The extra long winter had me wanting to make up for lost time once things finally turned green...

Our goldfinches have been grabbing nesting material from our nesting ball for approx. 2-3 weeks (maybe even longer) now.

I thought it was too early myself. I'll be curious to hear what you find out from your observations :)
