Scary Little Man Or Spider?
So, we found this on one of the beehives tonight:
At first glance, it looks like some little scary demon man hanging out on our hives. What voodoo could it be up to? It's actually some sort of spider (although missing to legs on the left side).
It doesn't look any less scary head on. Yikes! After doing some googling, we think this is a jumping spider--Phidippus audax. Although, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be open to it.

I think it's kinda cute head on. Those beady little eyes... it could make a cute stuffed animal.
Jumping spider, yes! We have those all over the place. I agree with Wren-- I think they're cute. Especially when they move those little faces to follow your motion. Never looked that closely at the demon face markings before-- great picture!
Spiders might be your friends--in general, they are.
I am by no means an expert, but if I were you, I would wonder if I had a mite problem that the spider is working on for you.
And it is almost certaa "her", I think. Males don't do well in the spider world either.
Jumping spiders are adorable!
And here's an interesting fact; spiders will regrow missing legs when they molt! Of course, since jumping spiders have such a short lifespan she/he may not have another molt...
i had to relocate one of those recently. i was outside reading in the sun and it was galloping about under my bench. while my arachnophobia reading is generally in the negative numbers, i didn't really fancy the idea of this critter jumping all over me, so i spent about ten minutes trying to convince it to jump onto a sheet of paper. i finally persuaded and gave it a new habitat to explore in my persian lilac.
they're fierce looking little animals, aren't they?
ewwww! I have a severe case of arachnaphobia! I just can't jump on the cute wagon. Sorry! I need a cleansing cardinal or something!
A spider with missing legs, hanging out around Mr. Neil's house? I wonder who that could be. :)
