Blog Contest
Okay, Other Sharon, you are not allowed to answer this contest for 24 hours ;). Everyone else, here is the photo, can you identify the actor sitting next to me (I'm willing to bet that about 90% of blog readers have seen one of his films):
Put your answer in the comments section of the blog. You don't have to create a blogger identity to answer, but if you want to win the prize, you do need to leave your name. First correct answer with a name, wins the prize.
What is the prize you ask? An official ABA Convention Bag (made of black canvas with black rosy-finches on it) and a copy of Tim Gallagher's Falcon Fever.

Peter Mayhew!
OK, how about if I name the two guys sitting by the back wall in the picture instead. *grin*
~Other Sharon
Gee, it only took 40 minutes and one post!
Scott- Well, I generally read via the Livejournal feed, and I suspect there's a lag. Otherwise it would have been closer to five minutes.
Actor: "Is there milk in those jugs?"
Birdchick: "Nice hair."
Eugene Levy?
Wow!
You guys are good! Was it the Chewbacca pinky ring that was the give away?
Peter Mayhew it is. Okay, Karen, email me your snail mail and we'll get you your book and bag to you.

hellziggy,
I'll see you this weekend...hope you don't run out of gas.
So I have to ask, since someone beat me to the answer. For the record, this Star Wars Geek knew exactly the moment I saw him.
So the questions are as follows:
1.What the heck is Peter Mayhew doing at the Birding Convention?
2. Who are the the two guys sitting by the back wall?
oh and..
3. WHAT THE HECK IS PETER MAYHEW DOING THERE!
Wasn't he in Independence Day, too?
Chewbacca?
I'm with wildwose! Dish the dirt! Dish the dirt! :D
What was THAT conversation like???
LOL! That was not taken at the ABA or any birding convention...I don't think I'd wear that shirt to one.
This was taken last night, a science fiction and fantasy convention is staring in Minnesota called CONvergence and they had all of their guest of honors at an opening reception. Non Birding Bill is performing his play and debuting his movie: THACO this weekend, so we were there.
I also got to meet Trace Beaulieu and his wife (he used to be on Mystery Science Theater and now does Cinematic Titanic). They are into birds, so I ended up talking mostly with them.
Mr. Mayhew and is wife were super nice too. They have lots of macaws and enjoy birds.
Aww-- I was hoping he'd turn out to be a hardcore birder. Just imagine him posing for that author photo. In full makeup. What a wookie!
You're sure rackin' up the Star Wars sightings lately-- Peter Mayhew, Darth Vader... ;)
You two look like you're supposed to be different species. It reminds me of a forced perspective shot in Lord of the Rings where you are actually sitting 10' further back from the other actor to make him look twice as big.
k' you look adorable in this picture... a tiny sweet birdchick
Isn't he the guy that was the scientist in INDEPENDANCE DAY?
That was Brent Spiner as the scientist in Independence Day (better known for his role as Data on Star Trek TNG).
Ok, you sat down with the guy who played Chewbacca and you chatted with Trace Balieu. I am trying really hard to not hate you right now.
Congratulations, and have a fun rest of the con, and good luck to NBB! Particularly since I know folks who are active in the con scene in the twin cities, I'll have to see about coming up next year.
Well, as someone who makes it to movies slightly more often than I win the lottery, I can truthfully say "Who the H--- is Peter Mayhew?" Slings and arrows forthcoming, I'm sure...
Don't feel bad, Mark - I had to look him up, and I'm usually pretty good at recognizing obscure character actors (at least the name rang a bell, though obviously a teensy one). Tom was sure I'd know who it was, but I let him down. Sigh...
And Sharon, this MST3K nerd is iridescent green with envy over your conversation with Trace Beaulieu. I would SO like to bird with that dude!
Oh man... so jeal!
