"Be kind to the birds" or somesuch?
My husband claims it's a dance. Do the Bird Friend...doo doo doo....
I can imagine the steps :)
Oh, wow: that's poetry. We need to have a contest. :D
That's funny.
There is a website that has a plethora of similar Japanese "english". It is called engrish dot com.
Erm, yes. This is really pretty cornball and I'm a little embarrassed to metion it (she said, right on the internet where anyone could see), but I really did end up writing a birding-related poem from this. I hope that's not creepy; I'm just startled that it turned out as well as it did, and I'm grateful to you for inspiring it. Thanks for that.
"anonymous" was right. Literal translation:
Let us be friends to the birds.
OK so whoever created the sign did not know English well. The thought behind the sign was good though, no?
The Chinese verb used in the sign can mean "to do" or "to be" in English. Someone picked the wrong one.
It's simplified chinese characters, and says "Let us be friends of birds" or that would be the correct translation. The literal translation says, as printed, "Let us do birds friends." ^_^;
"To be friends" in chinese is the verb "to do/to make" (depending on context) + friends...
Wasn't that a line in the Blues Brothers movie?
I love my blog readers. When Paul sent this, I knew that if I posted it, someone would know.
You guys are the best!
Jess - cute poem!
Mimi - thanks for the back story, you rock!
