Birds and Beers
Here is the Twin Cities Live link to my segment if you would like to watch. Note that I'm about three inches taller than usual--they made me stand on a stool. I'm not sure how long it's going to be up.
And, how about a Birds and Beers on Thursday, August 28 at 6pm. I was thinking we could do Merlin's Rest...or we could do the State Fair?

Cool clip, Sharon! Question: do you actually make a lot of your own seed and suet mixes? My parents always put out regular old suet for the woodpeckers, but I don't think I've ever seen the suet dough before. (Or the "trail mix" with the pistachios! I love John Hanson chowin' down, there.) Most of the bird feed I've seen for sale is the usual sunflower seed mix, thistle seed, stuff like that. Maybe I'm shopping in the wrong stores.
I think even without the stool, you'd still be taller than me. :D
Well done! I'll have to check out the hummingbird feeder you featured, although my new favorite feeder is our Cardinal Flowers - hummingbird MAGNET!
You should've had John eat the suet mix... it looked like he wanted to.
Great appearance on TCL. You are so cute and have such good energy. But we already knew that. I'm out of town this weekend, will you be doing any other book signings, perhaps in the Western 'burbs?

Nice job Sharon.
Gotta love the opening with a tree full of eagles. Your backyard?

Great clip!
Can't do much better than that, my friend. Wonderful video! Birds and Beer at the State Fair could be interesting, but for those of us who go once every ten years at most, where would you be meeting if you go that route?

I do not make my own mixes. I picked all of the props used in the segment from Cardinal Corner. It's fun to play with the fancy mixes and see who eats it. I watched a cardinal going for the pistashios one day.
It was weird doing this show, we rehearsed the whole segment and what we would say, they decided on what props and arranged my them for me. Usually at stations (and I've done in them in other states) you're on your own.

Cardinal Flowers (and Cardinal Climber) are awesome for hummingbirds, but they would only allow for so much information.

I would LOVE to do a signing out in the western suburbs--especially since I worked for All Seasons Wild Bird Store in Minnetonka and Wayzata, but they don't appear to be interested. Ah well, out of sight, out of mind.
steve and kris,
Thanks!
OK. I have never heard of a nuthatch being called a "rump-up". That was interesting. I loved the squirrel proof feeder although my squirrels are rocket scientists and would probably figure it out. I am jealous of the suet. I can't use it because of the bears. Good job on the news. It is always great when birds are a segment. Birdingbev
Nice segment, you have great energy that shines through. That John fella sure seemed hungry.
