Ghost Bird Movie
Well, well, well, ivory-billed woodpeckers are still in the news! If you're not tempted to get one for the $50,000 reward, there's a movie called Ghost Bird coming about the whole IBWO phenom. Here's a trailer:
Two things struck me about the trailer. Number one, the use of the song "Where Is My Mind." I think the first time I heard that song was the movie Fight Club (love that movie). And for some reason I always thought of it in association with the ivory-bill. When I would listen to it, I would imagine what it would be like seeing one (and this was before the whole rediscovery thing). So, kudos to them for using it.
The second thing that struck me is that the Ivory-billed Skeptic blogger is in the documentary. I giggled aloud when I saw that. Man, that was a blog that stirred the pot and then totally disappeared. If you're wondering what happened that blog, now that people have lost interest in woodpecker skepticism, he's moved on to climate change skepticism (you go, boy). My fondest memory of that blogger was that once I linked to him in a very tongue and cheek manner and he sent me an email informing me that I need to take him a bit more seriously because David Sibley and Jerome Jackson read his blog. Oooooooooo.
Ah, good times.
Looks interesting, perhaps even a little bit Waiting For Guffman-ish. I think the press release says it will be out in January 2009.

I stopped in Brinkley, AR, on a road trip last week due to seeing their IBW highway sign, hoping to find an IBW tchotchke or souvenir. Checked around town and all the hoopla seems to be over. I did buy The Grail Bird book at an antique store, learning from the ladies therein that they didn't know of any store in town still selling IBW memorabilia. Also checked with a small museum nearby and they gave me their last "how to report an IBW sighting" form, and agreed Brinkley's fame seemed to be over. Too bad--they sure could use some commerce. Thanks for the movie alert.
Looks like a fun film......but they went and used a Pileated call.....I guess it's like using a Hawk for an Eagle. Whatever.
I caught the post headline of ghost bird on DC Birder's Blog. That sounds intersesting. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.I hope they come out with more bird-related Movies in the future.
Hi there! I tagged you for a top five meme, I hope you aren't mad!

Good birding and cheer to you!
Tom Nelson is in the film? SWEEEEET!
Well, I will have to see the documentary just to listen to The Skeptic. What fun.
Maybe they put the Pileated call in on purpose!
Merry Xmas from a Phantom who actually exists!
Looks like a pretty interesting movie! :)
Well - all power to them, if it helps some other birds along the way!
Cheers, Klaus
I always wondered what happened to Tom Nelson. This must have been a dream come true for him.
For a bird blogger, he was an odd duck. The only one I ever knew who actually paid to advertise his blog on Google.
It was fun to see so many people I recognize from when I was in Arkansas for a month. I wonder if Mr. Self-Important Skeptic's head will swell to the point of a messy explosion.
Looks interesting.
Nancy Tanner, who was being interviewed a couple of times in the trailer, was the guest speaker at one of my bird clubs banquets. I had the privilege of riding back to Knoxville with her the next day to take her home.
sorry for the re-post. I messed up somehow on the posting.. ;)
