First Bird Seen (and Digiscoped) in 2009
Also, in my inbox this morning is an interesting story from the Telegraph of a kingfisher photographed eating six different kinds of fish! Check it out. Thanks for sending it, Laura.
Hope you all had a good time last night and here's hoping for getting along, good bees, good bunnies, good times and good birds in 2009. We had a quiet night of me, Non Birding Bill, and Mr Neil playing Wii Fit and watching Father Ted and The Muppets. It was a quiet highbrow affair until about midnight when...well...I think the Muppets did a fine reenactment here.
That Wii Fit is mean. It assessed me out to be a 50 year old, overweight, unbalanced tart. Mr. Neil and NBB both assure me that as I play more and figure out what the Wii wants, I'll get younger and fitter. I've never had a bird do that to me before. Perhaps I will stick to trudging in the woods.

Hey, Birdchick...long time no comment. Happy new year to you, NBB, Cinnamon, Kabuki and all the bee-girls.
BTW, is that Cinnamon on January 27 of the Cute Overload calendar?

Hey teageeare!
Happy new year--whether you comment or not.
I have not seen the calendar yet and am now shocked to realize that we don't have a 2009 calendar at all. How did we get through the holiday season without someone giving us a calendar? LOL!
Anyway, I would guess it's not Cinnamon, she's a Castor Rex which is a fairy common breed.
Now to get dressed and get a clearance calendar.
Birdchick - go to South Dakota Birds & Birding, http://www.sdakotabirds.com/ - Terry has a FREE 2009 printable bird calendar - each month prints on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper, with half the page devoted to a bird photo and the other half to the calendar. I've printed out January - the bird is a Horned Lark in snow. Good stuff!
Regards, Marge
Hey Bird Chick, Bird Lady posted a pine siskin too for her first bird of the year. I bet this is the Year of the Siskin then. They are cute and are a pleasant bird to watch.
Happy New Year!
Surely you saw the cat reading the birding guide on icanhascheezburger this morning!

so what's wrong with being a 50-year old, overweight, unbalanced tart? I've been doing that since October and feelin' fine! ;-)
Yeah Ruthie, go get 'em!
If it makes you feel better the Wii thinks willowy little Phoebs is 50, too. I haven't allowed it to assess me for obvious reasons.
