Maybe if more people had a duck in their life...

I got this link from BirdFreak via Twitter. This was filmed in the Twin Cities, don't know how I missed it. My favorite quote from the trucker: "Maybe if more people had a duck in their life, we wouldn't be so mad at each other."

Well, I can't bring my chickens to work with me, but I can say that having a pair of hens makes me a lot less stressed than I'd otherwise be. They just make me laugh.

I once had a duck friend named Richard. He did,in fact, have a calming influence on me. Ducks and chickens and parakeets and coots, whatever, beat the heck outta Prozac.

That's a great story! Thank you for sharing it.

We all could use a little less stress in our lives. Looks like this guy found his cure.

That's one of the coolest stories I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing.

klia, whose Senegal parrot is eating shredded wheat while looking out the window and making scrub jay calls at one of the local population

I've raised chickens & ducks. I loved them both; but after a bit; the ducks (2) got kinda mean and would attack any bare toes the could! It was fun jumping from one piece of lawn furniture to the next to avoid those sharp beaks! Gave an all new appreciation for the saying...

Motherhood:
1. A slice of Heaven
2. Like being pecked to death by a duck.

The hens were more docile and would sit in our laps as long as we let them.

I've known a few ducks in my time and they are very persona.. I mean duckable.

We had a Muscovy duck for a pet who ate popcorn and watched TV with the kids.

Shoot. Now its No Ducks, No Glory.

Totally off the subject...I just saw the news that Mr. Neil had won the 2009 Newbery Award! How utterly wonderful for him. His interview on Borders website is terrific.

Isn't it illegal to sell, and keep a native bird as a pet though? This is forbidden by federal law even if his state doesn't have state laws about it.

Ducks fall into a gray area. It is legal to keep them as pets, if you get them from a breeder like this man did.

I tended a flock of Muscovy ducks when I was a kid, and some became tame enough to be pets. Some were very mean, but others very loving and ... I'm not sure, but they seemed intelligent.

Certainly more intelligent than some people I've known, at least.
