Cool!
Freaky coincidence! I was reading about half male/half female birds in my ornithology textbook the other day and thinking I should do a Google Image search to see actual examples rather than just illustrations.
Now I don't have to! Thanks! :D
(It's terribly cool-looking, too!)
OMG :S
Whoa! It's like the half-white/half-black people on that Star Trek episode!
So is it a safe assumption that this bird would not be able to breed at all?
Wow! Interesting. Thanks for including the link to Birdnerd. I'm going back to my Ornithology text to see if I missed that.
Are we sure it is not photoshopped? This little creature is way too freaky. Bet it's confused too.
Now I shall have visions of some people going around, painting the cardinals red. Or white. And fighting over which colour this one should have been.
Sharon, he or she looks like Two Face of the Cardinal world.
Kev
Neat-o. I'm in East Moline, just a town and a half over from Rock Island. I'll keep my eyes peeled and put some extra seed out. :)
Hiya, Birdie chick! I'm a friend of Pandi and a complete and total bird lover. I'm glad I've discovered your lovely birdie blog. I'll be readin' ya...
That bird is a seed-thief. He/she has painted one side red and the other buff .. that way the witnesses will all contradict each other!!!! Never be convicted!
In fact, this is a cardinal on its way to become a pope.
Talk about sexual orientation......... lol
So the assumption is this bird can mate with itself?........ :D
Or perhaps this is a case of a Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde experiment gone badly wrong?
XD
poor little sweetheart birdie. He/she reminds me of a leaf that hasn't completely changed color. I wonder if the number of chemicals/pathogens in this world has something to do with this. We saw a beautiful semi-albino sparrow last fall, winter and spring - but not since.
(So Graham Nash was right about that sort of thing!)
