Sharon Stiteler, the Birdchick

Welcome to BirdChick.com!

I was given a Peterson Field Guide when I was seven years old and snapped. I love birds and it's just the way I'm wired. Since 1997, I've made it my goal to get paid to go birding. I worked for a Twin Cities wild bird store retail company for eight years. After that, I lived the hip lifestyle of an optics rep for a year and now lead birding trips, give birding workshops, and write for a living.

In 2004, I was getting a Sandhill Crane tattoo when the tattoo artist recognized me from my TV appearances as the "Bird Lady" and wondered why I didn't have a website. I was looking for a way to differentiate myself from the other "bird ladies" out there and thus: BirdChick.com was born.

Since then, the blog has received mentions in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and on NBC Nightly News. My writing has appeared in several publications including WildBird, Outdoor News, and Birding Business.

I also wrote the books Disapproving Rabbits and City Birds/Country Birds. When not birding or writing, I'm a part-time park ranger for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

Oh yeah, and I keep bees too.
