Sharon on KSTP today

Posted by Bill on March - 30 - 2009

Hello all, NBB here.

Sharon’s on the way back home, but she just got a call that a segment she pre-recorded will be appearing on KSTP-TV today, probably around 4:45 p.m. We’re told that the segment may also be on the web later this week.

  1. An interesting tweet, about you finding a bag smurfs in Indiana and are bringing it back home with you.

I remember back in the days of usenet a couple of faux D&D magical item descriptions. One was a “Bag of Smurfs”. The item is used by throwing it at the foot of an enemy. The bag opens and smurfs quickly pour out (at some rate), surround the enemy, and start singing the smurf song. Each smurf has 1 hit point and no defenses and doesn’t do anything but dance in a circle and sing the song. However, unless the target makes a very stiff saving throw, they become enraged and all they can do is kill smurfs until all 100 of them are dead.

I always remember this description accomanied by the “boots of Elviskind”, which when worn will slowly transform the wearer into a level 18 Bard with big sideburns.

Interestingly, I just did a Google search for both the BoS and BoE, thinking that putting the two together might snag something. Nothing. Not a sausage. Topics with those words but none with anything like the description of the item that I remember . Now I’m curious; it’s pretty rare to search for something like that and come up completely dry. I might be able to find something if I could do a usenet archive search.

Thought I’d pass that along, wondering what YOUR bag of smurfs is.

  2. Very good. It is a shame we don’t get that station.
