Not your typical birder!

ABC’s Wife Swap Show Wants Birders

Posted by Birdchick on June - 9 - 2009

They are probably looking for the khaki-vest-and-tilley-hat-wearing-poindexter type, but here you go if you want to do some reality tv:

ABC’s WIFE SWAP IS CASTING BIRDING FAMILIES FOR PRIMETIME!

ABC’s prime time series “Wife Swap” is currently casting its fifth season and looking for unique families with plenty of personality to take part in the show. Specifically, we’re looking for families who are passionate about birding! If yours is a unique, out-going family who loves studying, calling and/or watching birds together as a family, we want to hear from you! Families who participate in this documentary-style program are given a unique opportunity to share their beliefs and lifestyles with another family. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience that can be life-changing for everyone. Please feel free to pass this posting along to any families who are interested in learning more!

Each week on Wife Swap, the mothers from two families with different values and belief systems will exchange lives. It’s an amazing family experience and opportunity to learn how others lead their lives. Half of the week, mom lives the life of the family she is staying with. After making her observations, she introduces several “rule changes,” where she implements rules and activities that are important to her family. It’s a positive experience for people to not only learn but teach about other families and other ways of life. Wife Swap airs on Disney owned ABC television on Fridays at 8 pm- the family hour!

If you are a two-parent family with at least one child over the age of 5 living at home, and you think your family would make terrific TV, contact us to be a part of this groundbreaking show!

  1. Dee says:

I love that show! It will be so much fun to see a quirky birding family highlighted.

  2. Birdchick says:

    LOL!

I put this on Twitter and in less than 2 minutes, the husband said, “No!”

Not that I was considering it, we don’t have enough children for the audition.

  3. Holly says:

and who’s the foil going to be? A family that feeds feral cat colonies?

  4. carri ann says:

definitely you gotta do it… cin and kabuki should count as kids ;-)

  5. Patrick says:

I’m curious as to who the foil will be too. My vote is for hunters. Beth and I watch this show way more than I’d care to admit here.

  6. tai haku says:

“a positive experience”? This must be a little different to the UK version where everyone just yells at each other!

  7. Art D says:

“Well, excuse me, but under the rules in OUR house, it is perfectly acceptable to regurgitate after a meal!”

  8. Mary says:

I also watch that show more than I care to admit. Very intriguing – I hope to see it!

  9. Joya says:

You wouldn’t catch me signing up to be paired up with some revolting bird-murderer.

  10. Birdchick says:

I’m thinking the foil has to be someone with a bunch of cats that go outside. I can’t see a hunter being that big of a deal, many hunters watch birds.

  11. daveabirding says:

I agree hunters are too environmentally minded, and all parties would have too good a time getting outside together and could probably have a rational discussion and come to some kind of an accord. I’m thinking a family of strip miners? Maybe the inventor of the plastic six-pack can rings?

  12. Nicole says:

I think the foil family will be deathly afraid of birds! They will do everything in their power to keep them out of their yard.

  13. abby says:

I think the other family would be some family who is revolted by or very uninterested in nature in general. just my 2 cents

  14. This would be really cool, but I hate to say that this may be a scam. Apparently, this has made its way around some birding listservs, and it “appears to
be advance fee fraud (Nigerian 419)”. See this post for details.
This may be legit, but if anyone pursues this, just be careful.

  15. Birdchick says:

    grant,

that is good advice, but the post you are talking about refers to the Tagged! :) email that is making the rounds. It’s a photo sharing/social networking site that makes liberal use of your address book and spams everyone you have ever sent or received and email from.

This press release is legit, Danielle Gervais is a real person who works for rdf media (can’t say the same for the show).

  16. Kathy says:

A couple years ago they were looking for beekeeping families. Missed you at the meeting tonight!

  17. …hmmm, reminds me why I don’t watch TV much. Seems like someone is usually the butt of someones jokes, rather than it really being “educational”…
