Love love the little long-tails! They are the coolest - their little voices auk auk aukking as they rush away from you. There are about 20 -30 that hang out near-by in the winter here along my spot on the southern coast of Maine and they almost seem playful when diving. You Cannot beat that tail!!

I live in Stoney Creek Ontario right next to Lake Ontario, we had a raft of about a thousand ducks hanging out in our back yard yesterday. Including a slew of long tails, golden eyes and buffle heads. It's absolutly amazing to wake up to that many ducks NBB would love it. Ducks rock.

Great pix! I've been there when I lived in Minneapolis--ages ago. The lakes, and rivers attract many bird species this time of year. Love the St. Croix River!

I used to buy and feed 50 pounds of crack corn to the ducks and geese in our park in the dead of winter. I would go there and see nothing. Then I would carry the heavy bag to the creek and there in the deep water were all the ducks and geese staying warm. The water was a lot warmer and not frozen but everything out of the water was stiff. I would dump the whole 50 pounds in the shallow water where it wasn't frozen and they would all come up and eat.
