This young chickadee was not sure what to make of the grape jelly feeder. Ah, I love young birds as they try to figure out what is and is not food at the feeding station. The black-capped chickadee perched and stared for about 30 seconds, then flew to the sunflower feeder.

One of the funniest young bird circuses I ever saw was 2 parent blue jays trying to convince 5 fully grown young ones to take a bath in 1/2″ deep water in my ground birdbath. There was more hollering, protest and hopping in, then out, than ever there was trying to get my human young’uns in the tub at the end of the day, and there was plenty of protest from them, too.
I love the expression on the chickadee’s face! Haha!
There definitely is a vibe of ‘What the hell is that, and what am I supposed to do with it?’ to this photo.
That’s our state bird, and a cute one at that.
“Let’s see, mom said seeds are okay, bugs as long as they’re not too big. Ah, purple tar. I dooon’t remember anything about purple tar. “
