Well, we’re about to get Snomaggedon in the Twin Cities this weekend (12 inches with blizzard conditions). The birds are going bonkers at the feeders so I set out the Wingscapes camera to grab some images.

The jaunty blue jay is loving the crumpled up peanut suet mixed with black-oil sunflower seeds.

And then he is joined by a hairy woodpecker.

Love the last shot of the Jaybutt, er.. I mean Blue Jay- so pretty!
I love how the wingscapes cams ocasionally edit out wings and or tail feathers. Nice combo shot.
Lovely shots. What a cool combination of birds. (Blue jays will forever remind me of my grandfather, so they’re a favourite.)
Funny, he doesn’t look like Peter Boyle! Enjoy the snow and the birds this weekend!
Snomaggedon sounds marvelous. Maybe if I was actually there and would have to drive in it I’d be less excited, but living in south Georgia has made me nostalgic for snowstorms.
Is there such a thing as bird manners? Would someone please get that woodpecker a napkin. I know, you are supposed to get suet all over your face, it’s just that good.
Do hairy woodpeckers always get to be alpha bird when coming upon a blue jay? I have seen both at my feeders though both are too skittish for me to ever get photos. Great shots!
