I saw a kestrel perched on a wire last week while biking on a rural trail. It flew away and joined a flock of approx 40 other birds that were in the grass nearby…kestrels I think! The flock was tightly packed in the air, swooshing back and forth before flying into a nearby stand of trees. Do they migrate together like this or could I have been mistaken? I live in Northeast WI, near the bay of Green Bay. If I really saw what I think I saw, it was awesome!
kestrels do migrate, they usually follow dragonflies in their migration. I’ve never seen a group of forty before but maybe there were a ton of dragonflies over there?
Yay for the ABA Bird of the Year!
