Best Green Heron Video Ever

Posted by Birdchick on October - 28 - 2011

I almost peed my pants watching this video this morning.  It is HIGHlarious!  Stick with it, things get interesting at the 20 second mark and end up amazing at the end.  Herons are awesome and kudos to my buddy Clay Taylor for an excellent capture of this behavior. And that’s a young heron finessing its  [ Read More ]

Posted by Birdchick on October - 26 - 2011

Two VERY interesting articles on my list this week.  One from the American Birding Association’s publication called Winging It.  Go to the Winging It page and click on Vol 23, no. 5 and look for Birding With A Conscience. Also, check out this article on Birding While Black–Does It Really Matter? He was part of  [ Read More ]

The footage, which captures the last confirmed sighting of an Imperial Woodpecker in the wild, has now been restored and used  [ Read More ]

Posted by Birdchick on October - 26 - 2011

One of the birds caught my attention because he was just wacking the crap out of something on the fence  [ Read More ]

Emergency Camera Repair

Posted by Birdchick on October - 25 - 2011

Someone asked to see my MacGyver-like camera battery door repair.  This is what I came up with when the camera door broke in North Dakota: I used a couple of hair rubber bands and a wad of paper to keep the battery in place.  The hair rubber bands stretch out too quickly so I’ve switched  [ Read More ]

Birdchick Podcast #72: Birding with an iPhone, apps & stuff

Posted by Birdchick on October - 23 - 2011

I got an iPhone 4S with HD camera and video.  I’m testing out ways to use it for digiscoping with my Swarovski Scope and DCA adaptor.  I’m pretty impressed with the initial results.  Will this cause me to give up my SLR? App I’m playing with this week: BirdBeat–kind of a field sketch book.  Might  [ Read More ]
