We’ve got a pair checking out a previous Flicker nest hole in the oaks behind the house up in Champlin. The other day they were twitterpated and calling ALL day long
This bird was mixed in with a bunch of robins who were giving that high pitched whistle they do when there’s an aerial predator. A Cooper’s hawk was circling overhead and the birds were trying to avoid being prey.
Woot! Been hearing them a lot, but haven’t managed to see one yet this year. I’m counting on them taunting me by darting down to the sidewalk for a tasty bug when I don’t have my camera. Happened last year!
I just had one feeding on my grub-infested lawn. I got the binos out in time to watch him gobble up breakfast. I didn’t know they fed like that. I wish s/he had shown up before the grubs and skunks took out 1/4 of my lawn last summer. But I am getting free lawn aeration service.
This is a great-looking Flicker! Wish we had them here in South TX!

Isn’t that neat? I got my 1st usable photo the other day after chasing it for years…
